Snow Schoolers × Granlibakken Ski & Sled Hill
Snow Schoolers is an instructor-first ski and snowboard school. It started in 2014 with a simple question from friends at a Tahoe ski lease: what do instructors actually make? The answer was next to nothing, so we set out to change it. Today we run the ski school at Granlibakken Ski & Sled Hill in Tahoe and at Frisco Adventure Park in Colorado.
Here the ski school is a revenue-share partnership. Granlibakken Ski & Sled Hill brings the hill, the lifts and the lodge; Snow Schoolers hires, trains and schedules the instructors; and every lesson is shared between the two. When lessons grow, both do, and that's what lets us pay instructors what the job is worth.
Why Snow Schoolers is Special
- Instructors first. Our mission has two parts: make learning to ski or ride affordable and accessible for the average American, and pay snowsports pros a sustainable living wage.
- You teach, you don't herd. About 94% of our lessons are privates, compared with under 25% at the big destination resorts.
- Guests who love it. A 4.92 average rating and zero preventable safety incidents last season.
- Software that works for you. Book, schedule, message students and see your agenda in one place.
- A real hill with real history. At Granlibakken, over half of skier visits include a lesson, against roughly 7% nationally. Ski school is this hill's original business.

Our founder sits down with Stuart Winchester of Storm Skiing to tell the whole story: why ski lessons cost what they do, how we pay instructors more while charging guests less, and where we're going next.
